Our Mission in Action
Fufilling community needs one person, one family, at at time
Meeting the health care needs of the communities we serve – wherever they may be – is the cornerstone of Sutter Health's not-for-profit mission. That mission also extends to serving those who cannot afford health care and to supporting programs and services for those in financial need.
The following is a summary of Sutter's commitment to the communities it serves:
| Community Benefit (in millions) | ||
| 2007 | 2006 | |
*Services for the poor and underserved | $438 | $430 |
**Benefits for the broader community | $54 | $53 |
Totals | $492 (6.75% of net revenue) | $483 |
*Services provided to persons who cannot afford health care because of inadequate resources and/or are uninsured or underinsured. It also includes the unpaid cost of public programs treating Medi-Cal and indigent beneficiaries.
**The unpaid cost providing health screenings and other health related services, training health professionals, educating the community and the cost of performing vital medical research and providing free clinics and community services.
